The NEW Honeybook and Pic-Time Integration First Look
UK Pro here with 35 years in the wedding and portrait game in the beautiful Cotswolds. Lots of people do not understand that the real power behind MF is in the crop - we used 2 x GFX50's for our weddings and I came across a situation where a picture would really benefit from a mega crop - a little flower girl carrying a basket of petals - shot on the GF30mm from a bit of a distance. I needed to separate her from the background and turn it into a portrait - I went as far as Whitewall - who make our digital albums - would allow, and could go no further than I really wanted becuase of res. Even when creating a bit of a grainy sepia. Whilst it still made the album as it was, and everyone remarked on it - I couldn't help feeling that more could have been had from a 100MPX so that is what we did. Although to be fair we actually went down the Hasselblad route with 2 X2D's and a 907x for proper waist level portrait and group shots - matched to a few Nikon protocol Profoto A10s and it worked. Beautifully. Some commenters below have stated 'It's not worth it if the clients don't notice, it's only you' butwe argue that it is these subtle differences and many others we use which has always separated our work from the other pro's and the weekend wedding warriors out there. In the old days wen everyone was shooting square, Hass, Rollei, Mamiya and Bronica, we chose to shoot Mamiya RZ 6x7 with a couple of Nikon F90x's over the shoulder for the candids. Becuase no-one was doing that, today that separation is 100MF vs 50 or 60 FF and that gap or margin is narrowing constantly. Other benefits over Fuji is that the Hass has full flash sync at all speeds, is simpler and nicer to operate, for us they produce much cleaner images with proper colours and generally gives us nicer pictures at the end of it. Also Hass Apps are up there with Leica Fotos for ease whereas Fuji apps are a bit clumsy, not well thought out, slow and very unuser friendly. We personally find ALL Fuji cameras are far too complicated, especially under pressure as you are never really sure wether you have turned something on you shouldn't, have not turned on something you should, have turned off something you shouldn't or turned off something you should!! Hass = frame, focus, fire. Internal memory as well and the new 2.5 lenses are robust and minute. One downside aprt from the obvious investment is the fear of moisture!!!! Good luck all and always invest in yourself if you are serious about what you do. Full claim - I used to be a Fuji Ambassador and Fuji Lecturer hundreds of years ago - I have nothing against Fuji except a slight moan about the 110mm which is a fantastic portrait lens until you play around with contrast which is when strange things happen. Not so with the old Hass XCD 80, the new 90mm 2.5, (possibly the best portrait lens on the planet), and the old XCD 135mm Carry on.
Shade. Dude. They legit have it on a golf course with no trees. Help me!!!
How to edit Distortion photos sir....
Watching in 2024, and one can argue it's the best camera even 2 years later.
1:07:31 🤦♂😆
😂😂😂😂
How do you attach two flashes to a camera?
Misspoke. I meant one for each camera.
Thanks for always sharing such wonderful quality & detailed videos 🤍
Talk about teaching while doing - this video is a must see for all aspiring to shoot, whatever your style is! Magnificent brother
I wonder why 2nd camera is an xt3 over xt5? Pls advise...
This wedding was in 2021. X-T5 didn't exist at this point. Now I do shoot with the GFX 100 II and the X-T5.
Yes , would like to see the .. x-t5 and xH2s comparison 🔥
I love that you show a little behind the scenes footage too.
just be careful with Canon and 2 card slots. Most 2 card slot Canon cameras are NOT crop sensor cameras. In fact there is probably only 1 crop sensor camera with 2 card slot = 7D mk ii.
I started in August and I'm a natural man! I fell in love with it I have a alpha a7 iv right now and a few 0.95f lenses so far 0.95 has been perfect for my style of shooting.
Can we get a bit more GF lens reviews please?
That would be awesome. I don’t own too many but I would be happy to rent a bunch and try them out. There’s a couple I’m thinking of getting myself as well.
Mind blown! This was incredibly clear, concise and entertaining all at once! Thank you for the amount of effort put into this!
That’s awesome to hear. Thank you for the feedback and I’m glad to her that you enjoyed the video!
I have my first big wedding on Saturday June 29th a little nervous and scared. I’ve done portraits, cake smashes and Christmas portraits but not a big event. These videos you post are make me calm down a little.
That’ awesome that I was able to help! You’re going to do great. Good luck on your upcoming wedding.
What wrist strap do you use here.?
That’s a wrist strap from Holdfast Gear
@@jbivphotography Thanks..🙏🏻
How is the Photo Autofocus for someone moving towards the camera? (Bride down the aisle…) it looked good in the video part, how is it with Photo? I wouldnt mind 50-70% hitrate, dont need the 95% of a Sony/Canon/Nikon, but still the ability to hit SOME shots with movement would be nice…
I’ve used it a handful of times for weddings and I would say that it hits probably 7-8 out of 10 shots taken when someone is walking towards you. It’s dependent on the lens but for the most part it’s really good. The GFX 100 II and 100S II have even better hit rates which is awesome.
@@jbivphotography wow…thats sounds good enough tho…the newer models are way too pricey for me, but the 100s with phase detect af could be had for 3.5k used in my area…i dont need to shoot sports, as i own a z8 that covers all things fast, but until recently gfx simply stood for „dont move at all“….im considering trying a 100s as second camera with the 110 for instance and maybe the 55 and keep the rest nikon…
it looks sooo good
It’s such a great camera. I’ve been doing a handful of weddings with it recently and it’s been a great experience.
@@jbivphotography definitely! What lens did you use? :)
Yesss Fuji fam getting it done 👰🤵♂
👏👏👏👏👏
Don't forget you can rent gear. That lets you trial it before buying and use gear you may need for only a few days a year.
Very true. And I’m a huge fan of renting gear. However what is funny is I made a video talking about renting gear and everyone gave me crap saying it’s not a good idea 🙃🙃 I love renting gear to see if it’s a camera that will work for me.
If a 2nd camera body isn’t an option at the moment, would you recommend getting 1 prime and 1 solid zoom to cover all of the mentioned focal lengths? Current using a 23mm f2 on my Fuji xt4 and I’m debating whether to get the 16-55 f2.8 or another prime like an 85mm equivalent. Love your videos!
4:55 Hey that’s me 🤣👋🏼 (wearing the Fujifilm Camo hoodie)
Great meeting you!
@@jbivphotography You too man! Hope to work with you again in the future 😁 Unfortunately, I don’t work for Fujifilm anymore but we’ll cross our paths again 🔥
The Monitor options in the settings is not available with my iPad Pro M1, may I ask how to set it up?
Is it connected by Thunderbolt/USB-C? You need a monitor that can connect by USB-C and it’ll work correctly.
@@jbivphotography my monitor only have HDMI I am using an adapter, HDMI to USB C
Hello John, great video. I have 2 questions. I see you use the 80mm at f1.7 for group shots. Are everybody in focus when you use it that wide open? And what is a 80mm f1.7 equivalent to an APS-C lens? Thank you
Would love to hear some more reasons as to why this camera is your preferred one! I didn’t really get anything from this short that would suggest it’s worth upgrading my X-T3, other than better grip and some more MPs.
Thank for this video.
This was really informative thank you so much :)😊
That’s awesome to hear. I’m glad this was helpful.
Paired with a new prime like 23mm 1.4 or 33mm 1.4 this sensor delivers amazing sharpness and resolution
YES! Exactly.
Shooting my first wedding as a lead photographer tomorrow. This video is incredible and so appreciated!
I hope you did amazing!!🙌
I hope your wedding went well and this video helped out some.
Lifesaver!!!!! Thank you!!!
Glad it helped!
Nice film, here, JB. It was perfect to watch on the Mac while editing a wedding on the MacBook in preparation of another wedding this Saturday Like watching Bball highlights before a game! lol
That's awesome to hear! Glad you enjoyed it.
How much some should be set aside for a first look? We're doing our first look at a garden around 20 to 30 min away from the wedding venue, and 30 minutes away from where I'm getting ready (I'm the bride and I'm getting ready at my parent's house). Wedding starts at 6pm, but I cannot figure out for the life of me when to do it. I asked my friend (the photographer) when it should be, and he asked me when it would be 😵💫 Send help, my wedding is in 16 days
It depends what all you'll do during your first look. If you're going to do your first look together, portraits of you all together, as well as maybe immediate family or bridal party photos I would say allot for about 45 mins to an hour. Then give yourself wiggle room to get to the venue. If you're just going to do the first look between you and your spouse and then some portraits it can be more like 25-30 mins. I hope that helps out and congrats on your upcoming wedding!!
Hello John , can i use rhe presets on my ipad pro with lightroom ?
Yes you can. When you purchase the preset it shows you how to install them. And if you're using iPad only after you purchase I can sent you any specific files needed.
@jbivphotography Thank you . What do you mean with any specific file needed? Will I need more than just downloading your presets?
Thank you for your detailed and professional wedding teaching video, it is very helpful! I love it very much !
You're welcome. I hope it was helpful!
Thank you so much for the information. It’s been very helpful. I’m definitely thinking about taking one of your classes.
That's awesome to hear! Glad to help out.
Do you know what my dream camera would be a GFX 50s iii with XT5 dials.....mmmmm dang...with fast focussing
That would be AWESOME!
I have dilemma....I have fujifilm GFX 50s ii, XT5 and a Nikon D850....literally a camera for each job, I want to buy a GFX 100s ii (new model) ....my gut feel tells me to sell the 50s ii and keep for the sports .... Oh my gosh you sound like the same as me. I went from a Nikon D8 50 to an XT5. I wanted to go smaller but then I missed the low light performance of full frame but I love the Fuji colours so I went into GFX. I'm sure 1 million other people on this planet have done that as well I just love Fuji colours. There is no way I'm leaving Fuji film. Sony and Nikon have very clinical looking photos sharp as attack but no character
Thank you for this! I have now the GFX100S II and shoot weddings with the 50S the last years. I love the system.
That's an awesome kit. I'm thinking about going full GFX myself.
Do you use filters (polarized, ND, etc.) on your photos? As far as I remember, I don't think you have ever mentioned it in your videos. Second question: Do you recommend I upgrade my XT4 to the XT5? Thank You ;)
I don’t really ever use any filters. I’ll use an ND filter if I need it for video bout that’s about it. As far as X-T4 or T5 I think it comes to preference. If you want to do more video I would say T4 if you don’t like the flippy screen then T5. I’m biased towards T5
What is the camera holster that you are using? The link above is for the suits. Couldn't find one that can attach a bag to it.
Thanks for bringing that up. I fixed the links and you can find the straps here bit.ly/2VJHoql
Please turn the music off!
Sorry. I've stopped adding so much music to my videos and also mix it much lower. Thank you for the feedback.
Does it support cfexpress type B cardm
It doesn't. It's dual SD card.
Does the camera support cfexpress type b cards?
It does not. Only SD card. But UHSII which is really fast.
Love this❤ Alot of people can learn from your wedding photography tutorial❤❤
Yep yep. I hope to teach many!
This is not a video.. this is a MOVIE!!! Thank you!!!!!
You're welcome! I hope its enjoyable.
Hearing you say they needed to back at like 6 blew my mind! Guessing they had 4/5pm ceremony? Wish more uk couples would have later ceremonies, they be getting married at 1pm and first dance at 8pm 😂
WOW! that's crazy. Usually here if we have an early wedding they night is early as well.
Hi John, I'm considering to buy... but have been struggling with the size of the icons on the desktop, as well as the effects/control panel in Premiere pro/Photoshop. It's all super small. Is it easy to make those changes? How do you find your way?
Hi John, the best BTS I’ve ever seen!!! I know this wedding was a little while ago but i was wondering if you have contact info or a link to the videographers video? I film and shoot weddings so it might be cool it seems how his footage turned out after seeing him work. Thanks again!!!
Unfortunately when I went to look up his information to tag him in the video all of his business info has been closed down. No website, no Instagram, nothing. Some of his Knot pages were still up but that was about it. I guess they closed down 😞 (He was great to work with)
Thank you so much! Can you tell me where your harnas is from with the bag on the back ;)
Yes that's the Holdfast Gear Money Maker. I LOVE it. You can check it out here bit.ly/2VJHoql I'll be making a video about it soon as well.
@@jbivphotography thanks for replying! I will be checking it out
